What is TomYo.io?

TomYo.io enables educators and content makers to build their very own mobile learning application through a DIY process. Whether it is fitness or cooking, educators who specialize in various fields can create their apps from scratch by choosing from the TomYo Building Blocks - digital features that help to optimize the learning process. Educators can further personalize the app by adding their brand name, logo, color, and other signature elements. You can check out the company website here: https://tomyo.io/

What did I do at TomYo.io?

During my internship at TomYo, I collaborated with the tomyo.io team by creating mockups, prototypes, and introduction videos and proposing them to foreign clients. As TomYo’s platform business is in its early stage, we started by headhunting educational content creators based in the US who we believed to have the potential to grow their existing community with a well-developed mobile app. We found four clients overall and sent our customized mockups. We successfully signed a deal with one of the clients to who we sent the prototype.

Below is the breakdown of my main responsibilities as a UI designer at tomyo.io.

  • Branding & UI design

Solely designed the UI of the mockups by incorporating the clients’ branding elements and TomYo’s style guide.

  • Prototyping

After designing the UI, made prototypes to make it easier for the client to visualize and understand their own app mockups.

  • Delivery

The introduction videos made at last includes going through the prototype and explaining the core design decisions.

In a span of three weeks, I made mockups for four top educators in their respective fields: Startup School, Hip Hop Master Study, Golfee, and The Yoga Room. Let’s briefly go through each of them!

Startup School

Startup School by YC has a well-developed platform that connects thousands of startup founders with successful mentors. Our team realized a mobile app will make the founders’ learning process easier and more accessible. Thus, we thoroughly went through the website and created a mockup that includes all of the main features and style guide elements. Check out the prototype here.

Hip Hop Master Study

The “Hip Hop Education” community center aims to “utilize the energy and creativity of Hip-Hop music and culture to make schools and classrooms more engaging”. We found that the center was trying to build a mobile app that has both free and paid content for the K-12 community. The clients were happy with our design, and the app is now being built by our developers. Check out the prototype here.

Golfee

We created this golf-learning app mockup for a Korean-based golf instructor. Since he mainly taught in-person classes and did not have ample experience in digital content making, we consulted with him and chose the features based on his teaching specialties. For example, he preferred to do long-term sessions with his clients, so we decided to add a feature that enables clients can to enroll in longer sessions or programs on the app. Moreover, we also created the brand name, logo, and other branding elements for the client. Check out the prototype here.

The Yoga Room

Here is our customized app mockup for yoga & fitness content creator Zelinda Yañez. As she runs her own yoga studio and has a personal website, we realized she already has a strong brand name and community. Thus, for our proposal mockup, we thoroughly chose the features based on her service specialties, such as customized video and live video streaming, and further personalized by adding her brand elements.
